I'm glad to hear you are emerging from the mire. Perhaps the intellectual stimulation can come through writing. Your words reminded of one of my favourite books called Tunnel Visions: Journeys of an Underground Philosopher by Christopher Ross. He quits a high paying job to go teach English in Japan. Upon his return to England, he's low on funds and needs to get a job, but he doesn't want to get a job that is going to tax him intellectually because he wants to reserve his intellectual energy for his writing, so he gets a job as a Station Attendant on the London Underground.
